Carey D. Carmichael, Jr. is the owner and managing attorney of Carmichael Law, PLLC. His legal career spans almost twenty years and includes extensive experience on all sides of the courtroom. Carey has served as an Assistant Public Defender, Assistant Attorney General, and Assistant State Attorney, giving him a comprehensive understanding of criminal cases from investigation through trial. In 2019, he became Board Certified by The Florida Bar as an expert in Criminal Trial Law, recognizing his exceptional skill, professionalism, and experience in criminal litigation.

Carey earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, followed by a Master of Business Administration in 2002 while working full-time. He graduated law school in May 2006 and was admitted to The Florida Bar in September 2006. He began his legal career as an Assistant Public Defender in the Third Judicial Circuit in Lake City, Florida, before later serving as an Assistant Attorney General in Tallahassee and returning to the Third Judicial Circuit as an Assistant State Attorney. The Third Judicial Circuit of Florida includes Hamilton, Suwannee, Columbia, Lafayette, Taylor, Madison, and Dixie Counties.

During his time as a prosecutor, Carey reviewed, analyzed, and made filing decisions on more than 5,000 cases and prosecuted a wide range of serious offenses, including homicides and capital felonies, DUI manslaughter, fraud, home invasion robbery, drug trafficking, crimes against children, and crimes against law enforcement officers. From 2022 to 2024, he served as a supervisor in the Office of the State Attorney and was a member of the Special Prosecution Unit, focusing on homicides, child pornography, and child sex cases. Carey was assigned to prosecute cases in Hamilton County for a period of over 6 years.

After returning to private practice in 2024, Carey continues to bring his depth of experience, strategic insight, and commitment to excellence to every client he represents.
